UX/UI Case Study for a Language Learning App

In 2022, I developed a concept for a mobile-first platform designed to connect students and tutors from around the world in real-time language learning sessions. Inspired by platforms like Preply, the goal was to create an intuitive, human-centered experience that made learning a new language feel natural, personal, and motivating.

Narrative and Purpose

Language is about connection. From that premise, the project focused not only on usability, but also on emotional design — reducing the friction of starting something new, and enhancing the sense of progress and companionship throughout the learning journey.

Whether a user is preparing for a language certification or simply wants to have casual conversations with a native speaker, the app’s interface was designed to support personalized learning paths with flexibility and clarity.

Visual Concept

The visual identity was built around three main principles:

  1. Warm minimalism, using soft backgrounds and gentle gradients to create a calming learning environment.

  2. Friendly typography, with rounded sans-serif fonts that feel modern, welcoming, and easy to read.

  3. Color-coded guidance, helping users track progress, schedule classes, and manage multiple languages at a glance.

Key Features

  • Personalized onboarding that adapts to the user’s learning goals, level, and schedule.

  • Tutor browsing with filters by accent, availability, price, and teaching style.

  • Real-time scheduling with calendar sync, reminders, and rescheduling options.

  • In-session tools: live chat, shared whiteboard, vocabulary tracking, and feedback after each lesson.

  • Gamified progress tracking with streaks, badges, and vocabulary achievements.
